#CEOAspect – an exclusive article series that celebrates the pioneers steering industries toward tomorrow.

Today, on #CEOAspect, we’re excited to feature Zakir Hussain Rangwala, CEO of BD Software Distribution Pvt. Ltd. His journey in the tech and cybersecurity industry is nothing short of inspiring, filled with resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to growth.

When asked about the journey of becoming a CEO and how interesting the roller-coaster ride was, he mentions: I began my career at 18, selling computers, and by 1992, I was in the antivirus sales business. In 1996, I ventured into entrepreneurship, distributing software solutions across India. After 15 years, the market shifted, and financial constraints led me to close the business. I then worked for five years before founding BD Software in 2016, focusing on cybersecurity solutions distribution.

The timing was challenging, with demonetisation in 2017, the rollout of GST in 2018, and the COVID-19 pandemic soon after. However, rather than slowing us down, these disruptions became opportunities. Despite the uncertainty, we continued to grow by staying agile and committed to our goals. Over the years, I’ve experienced firsthand how the market can change drastically, yet the key to staying afloat is resilience and adaptability.

With over 34 years in the tech industry, I’ve gained invaluable experience in distribution, entrepreneurship, and resilience. The most rewarding part of my journey has been learning how to pivot and adapt during challenging times. Every shift in the market presented new opportunities, and the lessons I’ve learned have been essential in not only surviving but thriving in a rapidly evolving industry.

Through it all, I’ve learned that embracing change and staying focused on long-term goals is crucial. The journey has been as much about enjoying the ride as it has been about achieving success. It’s this mindset that continues to drive my passion for cybersecurity and distribution today.

One recommendation he would make for next-generation leaders is to always be focused on the goal and set one goal at a time. Never give up. Keep things simple and uncomplicated, and never miss out on fun.

If he could solve one global problem with his leadership, it would be to keep things simple to understand, where there is no need for a jargon dictionary.
